Thoughts from an 8 yr old

Today while riding in the car with two of my neices, Kenzie who is 8 1/2 started talking to me about Mexico and people coming here to the US.  She said that there is a river that people in Mexico try to cross and when they do they can get arrested because we have people who patrol the river.  I explained to her that those people are coming here illegaly and that is why they get arrested.  She told me that she doesn't like it when people come here illegaly, and that they should come here the right way.  We discussed why they would want to come here illegally, and she decided to make her point using the childrens movie Robin Hood.  I was blown away that she actually paid that much attention to the movie we watched last night, and would find similarities in the movie and people in our country not wanting to work for something.  It's so cool that she gets it and is only 8!! She talked about how King John thought he should be king because his brother Richard had been king. He took money from the people and was doing nothing to help them. She had more to say, but I can't remember it all. It was profound for an 8 yr old!

When talking about people coming here illegaly, Kenzie asked me why they would do that.  I explained to her that for so long our country has done nothing to stop them, and they know that they can get away with it.  We will give them a job, let them get a liscense, healthcare, and even social security, all at the cost to the people who have worked hard all their lives to earn those things.  It was then that she made her point using the movie.

She's one smart girl....and a little conservative in the making!
