My Birthday and a relaxing weekend

My birthday was on October 7th.  Early that morning I received a call from my two uncles, they were on their way to work together.  I thought it was very nice of them to call me.  Joshua called me on his way to work and we talked for a bit.  We had cake and ice cream at work to celebrate, and it was so yummy!  My mom came and took me out for lunch at Dog Days Hot dogs. I could eat there everyday, it's so good.  I went out to dinner with my friend Kerrie, it was her daughter Kenzie's 6th birthday, and some of her friends.  We went to my favorite Mexican restaurant.  The power went out while we were there, and I thought we were going to have to leave, but thankfully it came back on.  After dinner I had to do laundry and pack for my weekend trip to Kentucky. Joshua wasn't able to go with me, he doesn't get all the Federal holidays off like me.

My grandmother and grandfather, Mane and Hal, live in Fulton, Kentucky.  I enjoy getting to spend time up there, because it is such a small town and I feel relaxed while there.  This trip I didn't feel like I got enough sleep, but had a wonderful time.  I arrived around 10:30 Friday night.  I could have gotten there earlier, but I kept having to stop and pee while driving up there.  Getting old sucks!  I was able to see the end of the Braves game, which was nice.

Saturday morning I slept till almost 9:30.  It felt good to sleep in.  I got ready to go and we drove out to a tiny town called Hickman to visit my 90 yr old Aunt Mimi.  She is such a sweet lady.  I could spend all day just sitting with her.  We sat outside on the carport and enjoyed the nice weather.  She lives alone, so I know she enjoys when ever we visit.  From her house we drove out to see my cousins Diana and Robert.  We went back home from their house and relaxed for a bit before heading to the nursing home to visit my cousin Wendell and pick up Uncle Samuel.  Wendell is my cousin who is 75 and was born with Cerebral Palsy.  It is truly a miracle that he is alive today, seeing as he was born during the depression and during a time when medical treatment was no where near as good as it is today.  Uncle Samuel will be 96 on November 1st.  He lives at the assisted living facility in South Futon, TN.  Every day he takes the city transit to the nursing home to sit with Wendell.  You can drive between the two places in less than 5 minutes, my family lives in a very small town.  Uncle Samuel started telling me stories about being on a ship heading to Iwo Jima, how they ate in the galley and had to stand up. He said that if he didn't hold on to his tray he would lose his food, the waters were rough.  He loves to tell stories, and I wish I could spend more time just listening to him.  After dropping him off we enjoyed Happy Hour on the carport.  It's a daily thing up there to sit outside and have a drink at 5!  We then went to a surprise birthday party at their church for a lady who was turning 70.  Her name is Nina, and let me tell you she is a hoot!  She had me laughing from the moment she walked in the door.  I told her she should come back to GA with me and us go out.  She said she was ready for it.

Sunday morning I met my grandparents at church and then we went out to eat at one of the mexican restaurants with some people from the church.  From there I went back to the house to rest, I was very tired.  Mane and Hal went to a dedication of a new park that was opening in the "downtown" area.  We had to go and pick up Uncle Samuel again Sunday afternoon, the city transit only runs M-F, so family takes care of getting him there and back on the weekends.  While we were there I asked Hal to get a picture of the three of us.  It turned out to be the only picture I took all weekend.

After dropping Uncle Samuel off we went out driving to see if we could find the house that burned down and had made national news.  The fire chief in South Fulton, TN told his firemen to let the house burn because the family had not paid the required $75 fee to receive fire service.  In such a small town it is common that there is no county fire protection, so they have to pay for the fire department from the nearest city to fight a fire if need be.  This particular family had "forgotten" to pay their fee, and therefore they no longer have a house.  While I feel bad that they lost their house and all of their belongings, I think that they should have paid the fee.  To me it's like calling Allstate the day after a car accident and asking them to cover that accident.

Monday I drove back out to Hickman to visit Aunt Mimi.  She had asked me for some pictures, so I got them printed at walmart and had to take them to her.  I sat with her for about an hour and then headed back to town.  I stopped by walmart for the 4th time on my trip to get the picture of me, uncle sam, and wendell printed.  Then I ran by the nursing home to give it to them.  They were eating lunch togethere when I got there.  Both of them were happy I got the picture printed, I left each of them a copy.  Shortly after I got home Mane, Hal and I went to Union City to go shopping at Decor Direct.  It's a store that sells items from Kirklands for really cheap!  I scored a nice nativity for $5, it doesn't have any people, but you can't beat $5 for the "inn".  I also got a really cute picture frame that has two little hooks on the bottom of it for keys.  By the time we got home I felt like crap, I had such a bad headache.  I decided to give up caffeine, and it was getting to me.  I took a nap and felt better when I woke up, just in time for Happy Hour!  HAHA!  I enjoyed a drink and then we had dinner and celebrated Courtneys birthday.  Steve and Darcy made a great meal and I enjoyed sitting on their carport just talking after dinner.

I watched the end of the Braves game, and was on the edge of my seat the whole time.  I wanted them to win so bad, but was happy for them to lose at home so that Bobby Cox could have every fan celebrate him one last time.  I cried while watching his press conference.  Baseball will never be the same without #6.

Tuesday I got up and drove home.  It was a long boring drive.  I was exhausted the entire time, and had to keep stopping just so I could walk around and wake myself up.  I am happy to be home, but always hate to leave.  I love spending time with my family, and know that I am not guaranteed there will be a next time. That is why I make sure to plan trips up there, and see everyone.  I know that this was my last trip to KY as a Brawner, next time I will be a Lovett.  Next time I hope that Joshua is able to go with me, I need to get him to love visiting there just as much as I do.

I haven't loaded the one picture I took yet, but I will get that done tomorrow.  I promise.  I know my posts are boring with no pictures.
